EU in/out: The Facts

EU: Immigration
It’s true that as long as we remain in the EU, we will have limited control over immigration from other EU countries. HOWEVER leaving the EU would not automatically lead to a large reduction in immigration.

EU: Borders
Unlike most other EU member states—and some countries outside the EU—the UK is not part of the Schengen passport-free area because it hasn’t signed the Schengen agreement. This means it can retain border controls.

EU: Trade

There are good reasons not to rely on either of these specific claims.

  1. I do enjoy the manner in which you have presented this issue and it really does offer me personally some fodder for consideration. However, from what precisely I have personally seen, I really wish when the actual feedback stack on that people today keep on point and in no way start on a tirade involving some other news du jour. All the same, thank you for this outstanding piece and even though I do not concur with this in totality, I respect the viewpoint.

    • Hello BonsaiTreeGardener,

Thanks for your message. Please keep in mind the information we post regarding the EU referendum is not our opinion. We feel far too many people in positions of power are giving their opinion on this without backing up that opinion with facts. The information we post is created by an independent charity called fullfact.org. It is they who examine the claims and then present the known facts. If the facts are not known then they provide the information related to the claims which they have been able to find out. Sometimes people may prefer to read their ultimate conclusions when not all the information is known – but nothing they present represents their or our opinion. It is just the facts – and they provide evidence to support their facts.
